FAQ

What is Laser Engraving?

Laser engraving is among the fastest and most accurate methods of engraving a wide variety of materials. These materials include wood, marble, granite, glass, acrylic, tile and most metals.

What types of pictures work the best?

Very few pictures or graphics pose a problem with laser engraving. Photographs are more sensitive. Photographs with poor contrast, high shadows or excessive white space or dark can produce an engraved image that appears washed out.

What material should I use?

You do need to consider whether the item is going to be placed indoors or outdoors. Granite and stone are ideal choices for outdoors, however marble glass and wood will not withstand the outdoor elements. Also, each material tends to treat photos differently. Wood provides a very distinct, naturally engraved look while marble and granite tend to look more like a photograph. Glass and acrylic create a very elegant look, but both are very dependent on the background you provide when you display the product.

How much text can I use?

Let us know everything you wish to include and we will make every effort to fit your text. However, there are aesthetic limits to the amount of text you can include. As the number of words increases, the font size decreases in order to fit your text. As the text decreases in size, it becomes more difficult to read.

What are the rules regarding copyright?

The rights to most photographs are owned by the photographer, regardless of the subject. Today, the unfortunate truth is that permission is required for just about everything. Each customer should obtain permission to reproduce their photos or graphic image prior to sending them. If there are issues that may prevent us from engraving your image, we will let you know.
